Network Marketing Stereotypes

Hey Johnny, it's been years since we spoke last. How have you
been? How's the family? Great! I know we haven't stayed
in-touch, but I was thinking of you when I ran across this business
opportunity. Do you have a minute? Now Johnny is backpedaling and
trying to think of a way to get off the phone without hurting your
feelings.

Is this what your impression is of Network Marketing? Calling your
top 100 prospects that you may or may not have spoken to in years and
either inviting them over for a business presentation or being more
subtle and asking them if they know anyone that would be interested
in a business opportunity? Multi-level Marketing (MLM) usually
leaves a bad taste in most people's mouth and also has them
cringing just to hear the words uttered. Unfortunately, there are
good reasons for the horror that is created by the business known as
Network Marketing! Here are a few reasons: 1) Several MLM companies
have come and gone; 2) Pyramid schemes get a significant amount of
publicity when the general public is bilked out of considerable
money; 3) Payouts are hard to understand and corporate support is
limited or non-existent; 4) MLM marketers strictly want to churn and
burn downline, and not build relationships with their team; 5) The
product or service doesn't have staying power or
consumption/recurring capabilities; 6) Extremely difficult to build
a downline because of lack of tools and education.

Just about everybody by the age of 25 has been approached to join a
MLM, but very few signup and even fewer succeed. That's a shame
because Network Marketing is a fantastic business model if setup
correctly and run compassionately and honestly. Where else can an
individual build a team that would make most corporate CEOs enviable
and provide the opportunity to earn as much or more income? Nowhere
other than Network Marketing and the Internet has dramatically
improved the possibilities.

The Internet has created a fantastic opportunity for current and
future MLMers enabling them to expand their downlines domestically
and internationally much faster, but it has also caused a firestorm
of startup companies promoting their Network Marketing businesses
(i.e. Traffic builders). How do you know the difference between the
good, the bad, and the ugly (sorry Clint Eastwood fan)? 1) Make sure
the product or service is above over the counter quality. 2) There
is good lead generation program. 3) The corporate financials are
solid. 4) The payout is understandable and doesn't take forever
to achieve high dollars. 5) There is excellent training, recruiting,
and educational tools that will help you build a tremendous
business!

All of the previous points are essential, but the Network Marketing
industry needs a facelift, and a re-education of the public. Network
Marketing is all about relationships whether it is presented this way
or not. Be honest, respectful, patient, and supportive of others and
you'll be able to build a strong team that will generate residual
income for many years to come.
